چکیده

Generation of “Laser Light Sheet” beams and linear laser spots characterized by uniform irradiance distribution is important in various laser techniques like Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF), hardening, annealing, cladding, uniform laser illumination of linear spatial light modulators. This task can be successfully solved with using refractive beam shaping optics of field mapping type in combination with additional optical components. Due to their unique features: low output divergence, high transmittance, flatness of output phase front and irradiance profile, as well as extended depth of field, the refractive field mappers provide freedom in further manipulation of intensity profile and shape of output beam. Typically design of refractive field mapping beam shapers has circular symmetry; therefore to create linear spot shapes it is suggested to apply anamorphic optical components like cylinder lenses, prism pairs, etc. The combined beam shaping systems allow achieving very high aspect ratio, up to 1:1000, of linear spots with simultaneous providing extended depth of field, i.e. it is possible to realize a “Laser Light Sheet” characterized by keeping uniform intensity of linear spot over extended distance along optical axis. This paper will describe some design basics of refractive beam shapers of the field mapping type and optical layouts for creating linear laser spots and “Laser Light Sheet”. Examples of real implementations will be presented as well.

Generation of Ellipsoidal Beam through 3d Pulse Shaping for a Photoinjector Drive Laser*

In this paper we present a 3D laser pulse shaping scheme that can be applied for generating ellipsoidal electron bunches from a photoinjector. The 3D shaping is realized through laser phase tailoring in combination with chromatic aberration in a focusing optics. Performance of an electron beam generated from such shaped laser pulses is compared with that of a uniforma ellipsoidal, a uniform cyl...

Using of Broadened Asymmetric Waveguide Structure for 980nm Diode Laser

Laser diode beam divergence is the main parameter for beam shaping and fiber optic coupling. Increasing the waveguide layer thickness is the conventional method to decrease the beam divergence. In this paper, the broadened asymmetric waveguide is introduced to decrease the divergence without increasing the optical power. The asymmetric waveguide was used to shift the vertical optical field to n...

Generating a quasiellipsoidal electron beam by 3D laser-pulse shaping.

A generic 3D laser-pulse-shaping scheme is proposed towards the generation of a uniform ellipsoidal particle distribution, an ideal distribution due to the linear dependence of the space-charge force on the particle position. The shaping is accomplished via spatiotemporal coupling of the laser dynamics via chromatic aberration in an optical lens. Particle tracking simulations show that the elec...

Thermal Analysis of Laser Hardening for Different Moving Patterns

Transient thermal field in laser surface hardening treatment of medium carbon steel was analyzed by employing both three-dimensional analytical model and finite element model. In finite element model the laser beam was considered as a moving plane heat flux to establish the temperature rise distribution in the work-piece, while in analytical model laser beam was considered as an internal heat s...

Numerical simulation of laser beam welding of Ti6Al4V sheet

This paper was aimed to report the 3D finite element analysis simulation of laser welding process of Ti6Al4V 1.7 mm sheets in butt joint in order to predict the temperature distribution, hardness, and weld geometry. The butt-joint welds were made using CO2 laser with the maximum power of 2.2 kW in the continuous wave mode. A part of the experimental work was carried out to verify the weld geome...
